YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Despite outshooting the Penguins by a 10-shot
margin, the Green Bay women's soccer team (2-6-2, 0-2-0 Horizon League) suffered
its fifth consecutive 1-0 loss Sunday afternoon against Youngstown State (3-8-0,
1-1-0 Horizon League). All six Phoenix losses in 2010 have been by 1-0
decisions.
"We've
just not been getting it done in front of the goal," Green Bay head coach Trevor Warren said. "We outshot them by
a hefty margin today, but if you don't score goals and put the game away then
you're always in danger, and that's what's been happening with us. I felt we controlled
the majority of both of our games this weekend but unfortunately we leave Ohio
with a pair of losses."
Youngstown
State scored the game's lone goal at the 55:13 mark when Katie Peterlin knocked
in her first of the season. Kelly Storkel and Kelsey Kempton assisted on the
play.
The
Phoenix outshot the Penguins 9-1 in the first half and had a 5-0 advantage in
shots on goal. Green Bay finished the contest with a 16-6 lead in shots, firing
eight on goal compared to Youngstown State's two.
Green
Bay sophomore Lauren Somers (Bloomington,
Minn.) led the Phoenix with five shots, including three on goal. Junior
goalkeeper Maddie Drusch (Appleton,
Wis.) was forced to make just one save while allowing her sixth goal of the
season.
After
four straight games on the road, the Phoenix finally returns to Santaga Stadium
on Friday, Oct. 8 to begin a two-game home stand. Green Bay hosts Butler in its
annual alumni game on Friday at 7 p.m., then welcomes Valparaiso on Sunday at
noon.
