VolleyBlog: Freshman Orientation

After a long trip back from our first tournament of the season on August 29, we woke up early the next morning to help our fellow freshmen classmates move in. Since we had already been on campus for 3 weeks already, we were like seasoned veterans! It was a great way to promote the volleyball program and the families were very appreciative of the help. After a long, hot morning moving boxes up and down stairs into the dorm rooms, we got to spend the rest of the day with fun, orientation activities to help us interact with other students in our class.

For the first activity of the day we separated into groups with one thing in common; we were all in the same class. It was a great way to get to know people who we are going to be with for the first semester. In our groups we did activities like "speed dating", "you're a star" and "never have I ever". After those activities we had a freshmen cookout and some ice cream! And after the cookout, Comedy City of De Pere came to campus to give the freshman a much needed laugh after a long day.

The next morning, we got breakfast - scrambled eggs and cereal. This was another great way of meeting more people. After breakfast, there was a walk around the campus to get all the freshman familiar with their surroundings. Unfortunately, we could not go as we had practice, but those who did complete the walk received a free Green Bay t-shirt. The day was ended with Casino Night,  Kelly Mischler, our teammate who is also one of the campus ambassadors, was the caller for Bingo. But, her calling out the numbers gave us no luck as none of the freshmen volleyball players walked away a winner.

Wednesday there was no activities planned for the freshman during the day, so we could get ready for our very first day of college classes the next day. However, that night many of us attended the men's soccer game against DePaul and cheered the team on to victory. Then, it was an early night for us since we had 6 am practice before school the next day.

It was a big difference having everyone on campus after three weeks of just us and the soccer teams.  It felt like the campus came alive after everyone had settled in and it's starting to feel more like home! I'm looking forward to what the rest of the semester brings!
