DAYTON, Ohio
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay
swimming and diving teams picked up wins over Wright State Thursday evening at
the WSU Natatorium to kick off a three-day road trip in the state of Ohio. The
Phoenix women cruised to a 170-129 victory over the Raiders, while the men's
squad edged its Horizon League rival 153-141.
The Green Bay women improved to 2-0 in dual meets this
season, earning nine first-place finishes in the meet's 16 events. The men's
squad had seven individual victories to go along with numerous second and
third-place finishes in its first dual win of 2011-12.
Senior Amber
Bartholomew (Alexandria, Minn.) won three individual events to pace the
Phoenix women, claiming the 100 (59.13) and 200-yard backstroke (2:09.42)
events, as well as the 400 IM (4:38.06). Sophomore Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) was also a three-time winner, taking the
women's 50 (24.96) and 100-yard freestyles (55.01), while also anchoring the
winning 200 freestyle relay (1:39.23).
Other winners for the Phoenix women include: Kendra Rottier (Green Bay, Wis.) in the
1000 freestyle (10:35.31), Amanda Walker
(Sun Prairie, Wis.) in the 200 butterfly (2:10.76) and Carrie Dinelli (Northbrook, Ill.) in 3-meter diving (256.20).
The men's squad received significant contributions
from its underclassmen, as freshmen and/or sophomores were responsible for five
of the team's seven wins.
The Phoenix men opened the meet with a win in the 200
medley relay thanks to a team consisting of only first and second-year swimmers.
Newcomers Matt Hollub (Appleton,
Wis.) and Ryan Korslin (Wisconsin
Rapids, Wis.) teamed up with sophomores Robert Miner (Madison, Wis.) and Cole Hackley (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) to touch in at 1:38.07, narrowly defeating
WSU's 1:38.54 effort.
Hollub went on to win the 100 backstroke in 54.86,
while Miner also earned wins in the 100 (52.65) and 200 butterfly (1:57.60) races.
Also picking up a win in the pool was another sophomore, Brian Heiser (McFarland, Wis.), who took the 200 backstroke in
1:57.81.
The Phoenix men swept the diving events on Thursday as
defending Horizon League Diver of the Week Daniel
Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.) dominated the 1-meter board (315.75) and junior Mitchell Spaeth (Fredonia, Wis.) won
the 3-meter competition (289.13).
The Phoenix women are back in action tomorrow at a
women's only meet at Youngstown State at 4 p.m., while both teams return to competition
