Phoenix Swim & Dive Opens Season at IU Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Green Bay swimming & diving team opened its season at IU Indy this weekend (Friday/Saturday) at the IU Natatorium. Four teams competed: Green Bay, IU Indianapolis, Cleveland State, and Milwaukee.

WOMEN'S RECAP
The Phoenix was led by a handful of top-six finishes on the women's side. Sydney Vega placed third in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.90 (personal best). Other third-place finishes included Ella Schultz in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:25.75) and Annie Frederickson in the three-meter dive (222.75). Schultz was also near the top of the leaderboard in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing fourth with a time of 1:06.49. Rachel Everson rounded out the top six finishers for the Phoenix women, finishing fifth in the three-meter dive (209.55) and sixth in the one-meter dive (210.50). Green Bay also put together a 200 yard medley relay team that took sixth with a time of 1:48.42. That foursome consisted of Mia Pagel, Ella Schultz, McKenna Metropulos, and Emily Allen.
 
GB had a handful of other personal bests on the women's side, including Zoe Chalfant in the 400 yard IM (4:39.36), and Gemma Fibla Miralles in the 500 yard freestyle (5:21.23), 200 yard freestyle (2:01.41) and 1000 yard freestyle (10:56.00).
 
MEN'S RECAP
The Phoenix men also had a few top-six finishes. Zacha King came in sixth in the 100 yard backstroke, touching the wall in 51.04. Owen Kearns also finished sixth in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:06.83.
 
A number of Phoenix men also had personal bests at IU Indy. James Lemus had bests in the 100 yard breaststroke (59.43) and 100 freestyle (46.65). Octávio Gouveia posted personal bests in the 50 yard (20.96) and 100 yard freestyle (46.55). Stefan Tica did the same in the 200 yard (1:43.02) and 500 yard freestyle (4:39.84), and Adlai Ferguson rounded out the personal bests, finishing with 1:02.37 in the 100 yard breaststroke and 2:18.17 in the 200 yard breaststroke.
 
ON THE HORIZON
Green Bay will have a few weeks off before heading to Madison to square off against Wisconsin at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center on Friday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m.
