CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Senior Greg LeSage (Radcliff, Ky.) led four Green Bay players in double figures
Saturday afternoon with a career-high 12
points, but the Phoenix (12-14, 6-8 HL) fell at Loyola (14-12, 5-10 HL) 79-62
in Horizon League men's basketball action.
LeSage
had one of the best games of his two-year Green Bay career, hitting 4-of-5
shots from the field and four of his six free throws. He also added a team-high
eight rebounds in the contest.
"He
had a great weekend," head coach Brian Wardle said of LeSage. "He really
had a sense of urgency. I couldn't be prouder of the way he played and
competed."
Senior
Rahmon Fletcher (Kansas City, Mo.)
and juniors Jarvis Williams
(Milwaukee, Wis.) and Steve Baker (St. Paul, Minn.) added 10 points
apiece. Baker and LeSage helped the Phoenix outscore the Ramblers 32-9 off the
bench.
Green
Bay claimed its only lead early after a thunderous fastbreak dunk from Williams
made it 6-5, but the Ramblers used a 6-0 run to go ahead 14-8 and outscored the
Phoenix 17-8 in the final six minutes of the opening half to lead 35-24 at the
break.
Loyola
used four three-pointers in the opening four minutes of the second half to take
a 19-point edge (47-28) with 16:04 to play. Green Bay closed the gap to 13 on a
Baker three at the 10:40 mark, but the Phoenix never got any closer the rest of
the way.
The
loss ended a disappointing three-game road trip for the Phoenix, but Green Bay
returns home Tuesday to host Butler at 7 p.m. For more information on tickets to
