CARBONDALE, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) -
Rahmon Fletcher (Kansas City, Mo.) scored a
game-high 22 points and moved into sixth place on Green Bay's all-time scoring
list on Saturday, but the senior watched Mamadou Seck score the game-winning
layup with one second on the clock to give Southern Illinois (12-16) a 61-60
victory over visiting Green Bay (12-16) in a non-conference BracketBuster
contest.
With
the Phoenix trailing by one with under a minute to play, senior Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored
on a driving layup with 24 second left to give Green Bay a 60-59. The Phoenix
then got a stop on the other end, but missed the front end of a one-and-one with
eight seconds left, giving the Salukis another chance to go ahead.
Seck
rebounded the missed free throw and got all the way to the rim for the
game-winning shot with 1.0 on the clock. Sophomore Seth Evans (Seneca,
Ill.) found Alec Brown (Winona, Minn.) with a fullcourt
pass, but the freshman's turnaround jumper rimmed out at the buzzer.
Fletcher
started a 15-5 run midway through the second half to help Green Bay turn a tied
game into a 54-44 lead with 7:44 to play. Junior Jarvis Williams (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored five points during the
run, which Brown capped with
back-to-back putbacks.
Williams
had 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds in the contest while Brown gave
Green Bay a third player in double figures with 10 points, seven rebounds and two
blocks.
Fletcher
scored 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the opening half to help his team to a
33-28 halftime lead. The score was tied at 28 before two free throws from
Turner and a three from Evans helped the Phoenix build its five-point edge.
With
his 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting, Fletcher passed Richard Sims (1984-88) for
sixth place on the program's all-time scoring chart. He now has 1,633 points in
his Phoenix career.
Led
by Williams and Brown, Green Bay outrebounded the Salukis 33-26 in the contest.
The team turned 15 offensive rebounds into a 16-3 edge in second-chance points.
Green
Bay will return to the Resch Center for the last time this season on Monday,
hosting league-leading Valparaiso at 7 p.m. The Phoenix defeated the Crusaders
63-61 in the first meeting between the two squads. Fletcher along with fellow
seniors Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee,
Wis.) and Greg LeSage (Radcliff, Ky.) will be honored after the game for Senior
