Green Bay Falls in Road Contest at Milwaukee, 88-75

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Senior Bryquis Perine (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 18 of his team-high 22 points in the second half while trying to lead visiting Green Bay (12-12, 6-6 HL) to a comeback win over Milwaukee (13-11, 8-5 HL) Saturday afternoon, but the Panthers closed out an 88-75 victory over the Phoenix in Horizon League men's basketball action at U.S. Cellular Arena.

Milwaukee held a seven-point lead at the break and used an 8-of-11 performance from long range in the final 20 minutes to help it build a lead as big as 18 points with 13:48 remaining.

Led by Perine, Green Bay cut the deficit to single digits seven different times the rest of the way. With 1:13 to play, freshman Kam Cerroni (Sussex, Wis.) had a three go in and out that would have brought the Phoenix within six points. Green Bay's comeback was stifled in large part because of Milwaukee hitting 25-of-31 from the free-throw line in the second half alone.

Perine, after starting the game just 1-of-5 from the field and scoring four points in the first half, made five of his eight shots in the second half and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the line for the game. The senior tied a season high with his 22 points.

Overall, Green Bay made 16-of-28 shots in the second half en route to 49 points, the team's season high for a half in 2010-11.

Both teams struggled offensively at times during the first half, with the Phoenix shooting just 7-of-30 from the field and Milwaukee committing nine turnovers and hitting just 3-of-13 from long range. The Phoenix used a Rahmon Fletcher (Milwaukee, Wis.) free throw to cut the deficit to four with 11 seconds left, but Milwaukee's Kaylon Williams beat the buzzer with a long three to make it 33-26 Panthers at the break.

Milwaukee's Anthony Hill had a big first half and accounted for much of the Milwaukee offense, scoring 17 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Hill finished the game with 29 points and 15 rebounds for the Panthers. Fletcher led the Phoenix in the opening half, scoring 11 of his 16 points.

Along with Perine and Fletcher, junior Jarvis Williams (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 14 points and freshman Daniel Turner (McCordsville, Ind.) added 10 points to give the Phoenix four players in double figures.

Green Bay will look to bounce back this week as it travels to Chicago for a pair of games. The Phoenix will play at UIC on Thursday at 7 p.m. and at Loyola on Saturday at 3 p.m.
