ORLANDO, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (7-7) softball team picked up its fourth-consecutive
win to remain unbeaten in the Rebel Spring Games while improving to .500 in the
young season. The Phoenix held off Manhattan (3-9) for a 6-4 win before defeating
Colgate (5-9) 3-2 in 10 innings.
Game 1 - Green Bay 6, Manhattan 4
With
the Phoenix trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning, freshman pitcher Ashley
Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) entered the contest in the bottom of the frame,
finishing the game on the mound for Green Bay.
Green
Bay put its first run on the board in the second inning when Jessica Hrncar (Bristol,
Wis.) followed Ashleigh Racer's (Waterford, Wis.) sac fly with an RBI single
scoring Danielle Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.) and cutting Manhattan's lead to
three (4-1).
The
Phoenix cut Manhattan's lead in half in the fifth inning off an RBI single from
Sara Junion (Egg Harbor, Wis.) to score Hrncar who added a double in the inning.
Four
runs crossed the plate for the Phoenix in the sixth inning to seal the 6-4 win.
With the bases loaded and nobody out, Hrncar walked a run to make it 4-3.
Junion hit a sac fly to right field scoring Paige Newtols (Green Bay, Wis.) and
Peerenboom. Amanda Omahen (San Diego, Calif.) added an RBI single to center
field scoring Kendra Woepse (Manitowoc, Wis.).
Game 2 - Green Bay 3, Colgate 2 (10 INN)
Senior
Katie Cooney (East Moline, Ill.) pitched a complete 10-inning game for the
Phoenix in its come-from-behind 3-2 win.
Trailing 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Amanda
Pozolinski (Appleton, Wis.) hit an RBI triple to right-center field scoring
Hrncar and knotting the game 1-1.
After
seven scoreless innings, Colgate put pressure on the Phoenix by taking the 2-1
lead with an RBI down the right-field line in the top of the 10th inning. With
one out in the bottom of the inning, Alli Rivera (Geneseo, Ill.) hit an RBI
single to score Junion, making it 2-2. With two outs, Peerenboom hit an RBI
single and scoring Cooney for the 3-2 win.
