HOWEY IN THE HILLS, Fla.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Adjusting to
a severe climate change while playing in temperatures near 90 degrees in Howey
in the Hills, Fla., the Green Bay men's golf got the 2011 Horizon League
Championship off to a solid start Friday morning and sits in second place after
an opening 312 at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort. The 54-hole championship
will continue with 18 holes on Saturday before concluding with Sunday's final
round.
The
Phoenix, sitting at 24-over par, are just four strokes off the pace set by
first-round leader Cleveland State, who fired a 20-over par 308. Valparaiso
(313, +25) and Wright State (313, +25) are tied for third place a shot back of
the Phoenix while Detroit (314, +26) rounds out the top-five of the eight-team
field.
Green
Bay sophomore Chad Ebert (Kenosha,
Wis.) led the way for Green Bay for the first 18 holes and is tied for third
place after a three-over par 75 that included 13 pars and a one-over par back
nine. Ebert took second place at the Horizon League Championship a season ago.
Senior
Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) was
a shot back of Ebert and tied for sixth overall after a four-over par 76 that
included a team-high four birdies. Chris Pural (80, +8), Sam Weber (81,
