GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Former Green Bay student-athletes continue to have
success after competing for the Phoenix as men's golf alumni Adam Austreng (Shawano,
Wis.) recently qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship. Austreng qualified
at the Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., finishing atop the
leaderboard shooting 144.
The
U.S. Amateur is the leading annual golf tournament in the United States for
amateur golfers. This year's amateur championship will be held in Austreng's
home state of Wisconsin Aug. 22-28 at Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin,
Wisconsin.
"I
am very excited to have qualified for this tournament and make my way back to
Wisconsin to play on my home turf," said Austreng.
Over the past two years Erin
Hills has undergone several renovations, which will surely be a test for the
best amateurs in the world, including Austreng.
"I will be sporting my Green
Bay Phoenix golf bag at the tournament and hope to get some TV time so everyone
can see my Alma mater being represented," Austreng said.
Austreng finished his career
at Green Bay on a high note, selected to the seven-player All-Horizon League
team after finishing 10th place in the Horizon League championship his senior
year.
For the first time since 1997,
for all spectators, there will be no admission or parking charge for the U.S.
Amateur Championship. For directions and more information on Erin Hills and
