GREEN BAY,
Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Junior Chad Ebert (Kenosha, Wis.) carded a one-over par 73 to pace the Phoenix
in the opening round of the Green Bay Invitational and help the hosts to sit
just three strokes out of the lead entering Tuesday's final round at Green Bay
Country Club. Green Bay shot a 301 (+13) as a team and trail North Dakota State
(298), Saint Ambrose (300) and Butler (300) in a bunched of leaderboard.
Ebert's round leaves him in sixth place but only two
shots off the lead of North Dakota State's Ursinio Puga Gil, who was the lone
player under par on a windy day. The junior had three birdies on the par 72,
7,097 yard line.
Green Bay had two freshmen just stroke a stroke back
of Ebert in a tie for ninth place. Tom
Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) led the
field in birdies with five on the way to his 74 while Tyler Schmidt
(Jefferson, Wis.), competing on the Green Bay B team, equaled that score.
The other three players competing for the Green Bay A
team - Cam Fuller (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.), Sam
Weber (Heartland, Wis.) and Dan Ozga (Edgerton, Wis.) each finished with five-over par 77s.
The other scores for the Green Bay B team, which sits
in eighth place, were: Nic Johnson
(79, t-26th), Chad Bonis
(79, t-26th), Derek Fiestadt (81, t-35th) and Bo Van
Handel (84, t-41st).
Each
team in the field will begin its second round on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with a
shotgun start on holes four through six.
