GREEN BAY, Wis.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Returning
home for the first time since a 64-52
win against Indianapolis on Nov. 30, the Green Bay women's basketball team
(7-2) saw its offense come alive in a 72-37 win over North Dakota State (3-8).
The Phoenix used 26 assists on 28 field goals to post its largest margin of
victory of the 2012-13 season while improving to 3-0 at home.
"This was a great win, and it was great to play loose
after final exams. We've been promoting unselfishness and I think we really
worked on that this week trying to get it under the basket," head coach Kevin Borseth said.
Shooting a season-high 56 percent from the floor, the
Phoenix used a season-high 26 assists to score the most points its scored in a
game since a 79-48
victory over Richmond on Nov. 24. Green Bay dominated in the paint,
outscoring the Bison 46-16 down low, led by seniors Sarah Eichler (Grafton, Wis.) and Stephanie Sension (Hopkins, Minn.) , as well as redshirt junior Breannah Ranger (Skokie, Ill.). Eichler
led all scorers 20 points with six rebounds and five assists.
Green Bay opened the game on a 17-0 run, holding North
Dakota State scoreless until the 10:03 mark. The Phoenix led by as many as 25
before entering the half with a 42-18 lead. Senior Adrian Ritchie (De Pere, Wis.) had seven of her eight assists on
the night in the opening frame. The recent 1,000-point club member, who was
recognized for accomplishing this feat before the game, tied a career high with
eight assists in the contest.
Leading by as many as 40 in the second half, Borseth
was able to give his six bench players a combined 127 minutes on the court. Ranger
led all bench players with 12 points in 13 minutes on a perfect 6-6 from the
field.
Senior Lydia
Bauer (Lake Zurich, Ill.), who sang the National Anthem before the contest,
added eight points and five rebounds. Ritchie and Sension both scored nine on
the night.
The Phoenix will remain at home to battle rival
Wisconsin on Sunday, Dec. 23rd at 7 p.m. The contest is nearing what would be
the fourth sellout in the Kress Center's five year history, but tickets are
still available. Green Bay has won three straight against the Badgers, who are
enjoying an eight-day break with a 7-3 record.
