Phoenix Wraps up Impressive Play with 9-1 Record at Rebel Spring Games

Orlando, Fla. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay (10-9) softball closed the Rebel Spring Games this weekend with an impressive 9-1 record throughout the 10-game stretch.

GREEN BAY 3, WAGNER 2- After two scoreless innings, Green Bay finally connected when senior Amanda Pozolinski (Appleton, Wis.) tripled and later scored off and RBI from freshman Hailey Mohrfeld's (Menominee Falls, Wis.). It was sophomore Stacey Butts' (Greenfield, Wis.)  fly out to left field that scored Mohrfeld for the 2-0 advantage.

Wagner tied the contest in the sixth inning, sending the game into extra innings after a scoreless seventh inning of play.

The Phoenix was able to win the game in the eighth inning when senior Amanda Omahen (San Diego, Calif.) scored on senior Ashleigh Racer's (Waterford, Wis.) RBI. Sophomore Ashley Nannemann (Burlington, Wis.) pitched a complete game from the mound, allowing six hits while striking out three batters.

GREEN BAY 4, COLUMBIA 1- Green Bay and Columbia were both tied 1-1 after the first inning before the Phoenix was able to pull away with the win thanks to two RBI's from sophomore Danielle Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.).

In the opening frame, Mohrfeld tripled to left center and scored on an RBI single from Peerenboom. Columbia later combated with a run at the bottom of the first but was not able to score any more runs.

Green Bay took a 2-1 lead off Peerenboom's second RBI of the game in the top of the second before Jessica Hrncar (Bristol, Wis.) made it a 3-1 game, scoring off of Omahen's RBI.

The final run to capture the win was in the top of the fourth. Stacey Butts' pop up to second base allowed Peerenboom to score the fourth and final run for the Phoenix. Junior Allison Goecks (Beloit, Wis.) struck out four batters, allowing only one hit throughout three innings of work.

GREEN BAY 14, SAINT PETER'S 7- St. Peter's scored one run to start out the first inning but the Phoenix was able to respond with six runs of its own.

Stacey Butts hit an RBI double scoring Mohfeld and Peerenboom to take the 2-1 lead. The bases were loaded with only one out when junior Paige Newtols (Green Bay, Wis.) was walked, scoring Alli Rivera (Geneseo, Ill.). Hrncar tripled to center field advancing Newtols, Shannon Butts, Stacey Butts to home plate. At the end of the first inning Green Bay led 6-1.

After a scoreless second inning, Saint Peter's scored four runs and the Phoenix was not able to answer until the bottom of the fourth when Peerenboom scored off Rivera's RBI single.  St. Peter's then scored two runs in the top of the fifth to even up the score 7-7.  Green Bay answered with Omahen scoring on a wild pitch before Reinke scored off of Hrncar's fourth RBI of the game. Peerenboom hit an RBI single scoring Hrncar to end the fifth inning with the Phoenix up 10-7.

Green Bay added four more runs in in the sixth inning to better its lead. Omahen singled up the middle scoring Stacey Butts. Reinke then singled to third base scoring Pozolinski followed by Paige Newtols (Green Bay, Wis.) who then hit an RBI double down the left field line scoring Reinke and Omahen to close the game with the 14-7 win. Allison Goecks struck out three batters allowing one hit with in three innings of play.

Green Bay opens Horizon League play Saturday, Mar. 31 as it travels to Valparaiso for a three-game series with the Crusaders. The Phoenix will host Butler in a double header Saturday, Apr. 14 in its home opener at 1:00 p.m.
