BROOKINGS, S.D. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay (3-5) held a 2-0 lead over South Dakota State (7-2) Friday night in the opening match of the Jackrabbit Invitational, but the home team rallied to take the final three sets and pick up the 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-7) win in front of 543 spectators at Frost Arena.

"I thought we responded well at the start of the match," Phoenix head coach Debbie Kirch said. "It was a packed gym, a loud crowd and we shut that out in sets one and two. We just need to learn that each set is separate and need to play the same way the entire match. We knew SDSU was a good team who had fought back to win matches earlier this season - we have to keep the foot on the accelerator when we have a team down."

Green Bay finished with the edge in kills (64-59), assists (59-55) and digs (91-88), but committed 37 attack errors compared to SDSU's 19. The Jackrabbits, now winners of five straight, out-hit the Phoenix .233 to .138 in the contest and had a 15-10 advantage in blocks.

Senior Carmen Leitermann (Schofield, Wis.) led the Phoenix with a season-high 18 kills, hitting .350. Juniors Monica Anderson (Cottage Grove, Wis.) and Leah Van Zeeland (Kaukauna, Wis.) also reached double-figures in kills with 16 and 10, respectively. Van Zeeland added 20 digs for her third double-double of the season, while junior Leah Poel (Jenison, Mich.) had her sixth straight double-double with 12 digs and a match-high 46 assists.

The Jackrabbits were paced by Kaitlin Klingemann, who tied Leitermann for the match high with 18 kills, and Kelli Fiegen, who had 14 kills and eight blocks.

Green Bay wraps up the Jackrabbit Invitational on Saturday when it takes on Bradley (5-2) at 1 p.m.
