CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay volleyball team went on the road on Friday night, and host UIC was able post a 3-0 victory over the Phoenix in Horizon League action. The Flames took the sets by scores of 25-20, 25-16, and 25-16.
Sophomore Megan Powers (Glendale, Ariz.) recorded 10 kills to lead the Phoenix in the match. Beth Kuske (Germantown, Wis.) added eight kills for the Green Bay offense, which had a hitting percentage of .208.
The Phoenix hit an incredible .406 in the opening set, but UIC was even more impressive at .467. Stephenee Yancy, one of the favorites for Horizon League Player of the Year, finished the match with 21 kills on 32 swings for a hitting percentage of .594.
Junior Emily Riese (Fond du Lac, Wis.) directed the Phoenix offense with 32 assists. Junior Jillian Bauer (Verona, Wis.) had a match-high 16 digs for the defense.
The Phoenix will return to action on Saturday afternoon, playing at Valparaiso at 4 p.m. Fans can watch the match live on the Horizon League Network.
