CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – With junior Gene Kiela (Plymouth, Wis.) firing a 2-under par 70, the Green Bay men's golf team made a strong Sunday charge during the final round of the Dallio Memorial at Ruffled Feathers Golf Course to claim third place in a 12-team field.
Green Bay posted a team score of 295 on Sunday, behind only the two teams that ended up in first and second place. IUPUI won the title with a 54-hole score of 904 while host DePaul was one shot back in second place. The Phoenix finished five shots out of the lead with a score of 909.
Kiela's final round, which included five birdies and an eagle, left him in a tie for sixth place overall. The finish marks Kiela's fourth top-10 in as many tournaments this season.
Senior Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) finished one shot back of Kiela and also earned a top-10 finish in a tie for eighth place. Boockmeier carded two birdies on Sunday en route to a 3-over 75.
Senior Joseph Collard (Marinette, Wis.) made three birdies on his back nine on Sunday and carded his best round of the season with a 2-over 74. Like Collard, sophomore Joe Du Chateau (Fond du Lac, Wis.) also played the back nine in 1-under par to help the Phoenix charge. He eagled the par-5 13th hole and posted a 4-over 76 on the day.
Green Bay will take a few weeks off before concluding its fall schedule at the Rambler Roundup hosted by Loyola on Oct. 28-29.
