GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving squads both claimed the team title in the Phoenix 1-2-3 meet at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium. The two-day, championship-style meet featured a team from Division I (Green Bay), Division II (St. Cloud State) and Division III (UW-Whitewater).

The Phoenix touched the wall first in 20 of the 40 swimming events in the meet and claimed two wins and eight top-3 finishes in the diving events. The women's team won the meet in convincing fashion, racking up 856 points on the weekend and turning in 13 wins of their own. The men's team won nine events on the weekend, but used great depth, including 27 second and third place finishes, to outlast St. Cloud State (769) with a score of 893.5.

Junior Anna Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) turned in a number of big performances this weekend, contributing a total of five victories to the team's tally. Gomez claimed victories in the 200 free (1:54.85), 1650 free (17:46.71), 200 free relay (1:38.41), 400 free relay (3:36.09), and 800 free relay (7:53.99). Gomez's sister Emily Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) also made her own contribution to the Phoenix squad by touching the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.20.

Freshman Bailey Wagner (West Bend, Wis.) was ripping her dives today and won both of the meets diving events. Wagner turned in a total score of 236.3 in the 1-meter competition, providing a convincing 46-point victory over St. Cloud State's Amber Armstrong. Wagner kept the success going in the diving competitions by winning the 3-meter event with a score of 248.85.

Sophomore Natalie Neuwirth (Stevens Point, Wis.) was involved in three total wins, joining Gomez on the 200, 400, and 800 free relays. Neuwirth also had a couple of close calls, claiming second-place finishes in the 200 back (2:10.32) and the 400 IM (4:44.45).

Sophomore Janna Check (Stevens Point, Wis.) and freshman Stephanie Garvin (West Chicago, Ill.) both won individual events and contributed to winning relays for the Green Bay women. Check took the 100 free in 54.12 and contributed to the 400 free relay in 3:36.09, while Garvin took both the 500-yard free (5:07.65) and swam a leg in the 800 free relay (7:53.99).

Junior Willem Poelmans (Hasselt, Belgium) was part of five wins for the Phoenix men, winning the 200 IM (1:55.80) and 400 IM (4:05.23), and also swimming on the victorious 200 free (1:24.65), 400 medley (3:29.31), and 800 free relays (7:04.45).

Freshman Alec Rutkowski (Dubuque, Iowa) touched the wall first in three individual events this weekend, claiming individual victories in the 100 fly (52.75), 100 back (52.95), and 200 fly (1:57.68). Rutowski was also a member to the 400 medley relay quartet, bringing his total to four victories on the meet.

Freshman Brian Borden (Brookfield, Wis.) contributed two wins to the Phoenix men's squad, claiming an individual victory in the 200 backstroke by touching the wall in 1:55.99. Borden's second victory came in the 800 free relay after the quartet touched the wall in first with 7:04.45.
