Green Bay Closes 2014 Home Schedule with Vermont on Saturday

By: Joey Daniels (@GBJoeyD)

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) Riding a three-game winning streak and owning a perfect 3-0 home record, the Green Bay women's basketball team will play host to Vermont on Saturday (Dec. 20) at 1 p.m. at the Kress Center.

Green Bay (8-2) has now won seven of its last eight games overall, most recently defeating in-state rival Wisconsin 53-43 at home this past Saturday. During that stretch, the Phoenix has earned victories over two Big Ten teams, an ACC team and a team from the PAC 12.

Vermont (3-7) will come to Green Bay on the heels of a three-game winning streak after starting the season 0-7. The Catamounts hail from the America East conference and have three players averaging in double figures.

Saturday's game will serve as a Festival Foods Family Game, with all youth tickets available for a discounted price of $3 per ticket. Fans can also enjoy $1 brats and $1 chocolate milks from the concession stands.

ON THE CUSP
Green Bay continues to win games, and the national media are quickly recognizing the strength of those victories. The Phoenix was one spot outside the Associated Press Top 25 this week, checking in at an unofficial No. 26 after receiving 43 votes. No. 25 DePaul received 71 votes, so Green Bay is knocking on the door of the Top 25. The last time GB was ranked came in the final poll of the 2012-13 season, when the team checked in at No. 20 in the AP and No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

LEAGUE LEADERS
The Phoenix currently leads the Horizon League in field goal percentage and turnover margin, two key stats to success. Green Bay is shooting 44.9 percent (257-572) from the floor, having made more field goals than any other team in the league. Mehryn Kraker (2nd) and Tesha Buck (8th) both rank in the top 10 of the conference in that category, both shooting above 47 percent. GB also boasts the best turnover margin in the conference at +6.6.

vs VERMONT
Green Bay is a perfect 3-0 all-time against the Catamounts, winning twice in Vermont and once at home. The Phoenix downed Vermont last year 74-57 on the road the week before Thanksgiving. Prior to last year's meeting, Green Bay and Vermont had not met since 2005. The Phoenix is a stout 7-1 all-time against teams from the America East.

CRUNCHING NUMBERS
In games that Green Bay has won this season, it is averaging 74.1 PPG and is shooting 48.1 percent (217-451) from the floor, while its opponents are only averaging 59.5 points per game. In games the Phoenix has lost, its opponents are averaging 78.5 points per game, while Green Bay is only shooting 33.1 percent (40-121). The takeaway, score more than 70 points per game and shoot over 48 percent and the wins seem to come.
