Season Comes to an End as Phoenix Falls at Minnesota in NCAA Tournament

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Green Bay women's basketball team's season came to an end on Saturday night, as they fell to No. 4 seed Minnesota 75-58 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Green Bay led by four heading into the fourth quarter.

The Phoenix had two players score in double figures, led by Maddy Skorupski, who had 19 points and six rebounds. Meghan Schultz added 12 points, and Kamy Peppler added seven points, five assists, and two steals.

Minnesota (23-8) was led by Amaya Battle, who scored 21 points to go with eight rebounds. Sophie Hart added 19 points and six rebounds. Mara Braun also contributed with 16 points and six rebounds. The Gophers will move on to face No. 5 seed Ole Miss on Sunday at Williams Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay led 7-4 early, after a Carley Duffney layup at the 6:52 mark in the first quarter. The Phoenix held onto their lead going into the second quarter at 11-10. Green Bay did most of its first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket.

The Phoenix led 15-14 before Minnesota went on an 8-0 run capped off by a Brylee Glenn layup to take a 22-15 lead. Green Bay responded, going on a 10-0 run of their own finished off by a three-pointer from Kristina Ouimette, to take a 25-22 lead. Skorupski hit a buzzer-beating shot to give the Phoenix a 29-26 lead going into halftime.

Following intermission, Green Bay led 33-31 before going on a 10-3 run, finished off by a Jenna Guyer three-pointer to give themselves a 43-34 lead with 6:09 left in the third quarter. Minnesota battled back, and Braun made a jumper to cut the Gophers' deficit to 49-45 going into the fourth quarter.

Minnesota erased Green Bay's lead in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Phoenix 14-0 to take a commanding 59-49 lead with 4:49 remaining in the game. The Gophers expanded their lead to as many as 19 points as they clinched a round of 32 birth, winning 75-58.

» The Phoenix put on a passing clinic, recording an assist on 67 percent of made field goals.
» Green Bay committed 17 turnovers compared to Minnesota's 11.
» Minnesota outrebounded Green Bay 35-31, including 11-8 on offensive rebounds.
