GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Redshirt sophomore Joe Du Chateau (Fond du Lac, Wis.) led the field on Tuesday for the final round of the Green Bay Invitational at Green Bay Country Club, firing a 2-under par 70 to finish in a tie for fourth place in the season-opening 54-hole tournament.
Du Chateau's effort allowed him to claim a spot in the top-five, but he could not catch teammate Gene Kiela (Plymouth, Wis.) or individual medalist Desmond Stoll of Central. Kiela led at the end of each of the first two rounds, but a 79 on Tuesday left him alone in second place (71-69-79=219) behind Stoll (73-68-73=214).
Central took home the team title with rounds of 303, 300 and 299. Chicago State finished in second place with a 54-hole total of 917, and Du Chateau's Green Bay White squad rallied past the Green team to take third place (318-307-297=922).
Including Du Chateau, six of the 10 Phoenix golfers carded their low round of the tournament. Senior Tom Boockmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) posted a 2-over 74 on Tuesday, and senior Joseph Collard (Marinette, Wis.) improved by five shots with a 4-over 76.
The Phoenix will return to action on Sept. 21-23, competing at the Chicago State Invitational at Harborside International.
