MILWAUKEE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Junior Taylor Kasal (Westmont, Ill.) totaled 11 kills and Green Bay (2-7) won the opening set on Saturday afternoon, but the visiting Phoenix fell 3-1 to host Marquette 26-28, 25-14, 25-17, 25-22. The match concluded Green Bay's weekend, which included a five-set victory over UT-San Antonio on Friday.
In the first set, the host Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead, but the Phoenix responded due in part to the strong play of freshman Taylor Totka (Racine, Wis.), who had a team-high four kills and two blocks. Green Bay had four team blocks in the set to hold Marquette to a .182 hitting percentage.
Kasal had her second consecutive double-double and third of the season, totaling 11 kills and 14 digs. After the tourney, Kasal was selected to the all-tournament team. Totka added nine kills and four blocks. Junior libero Jillian Bauer (Verona, Wis.) had nine of her 20 digs in the fourth set on Saturday.
Sophomore Megan Powers (Glendale, Ariz.) continued an impressive start to her first season in a Phoenix uniform, registering 31 kills and a hitting percentage of .338 during the Marquette Invitational. For the season, Powers ranks first on the Phoenix and among the Horizon League leaders in hitting percentage (.267).
Green Bay will be back on the road for two more matches next weekend for its final non-conference action before Horizon League play begins on Sept. 26-27.
