GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's soccer team was unable to overcome a 2-0 deficit against Western Michigan on Friday afternoon, eventually falling 2-1 at Santaga Stadium. The loss drops Green Bay's record to 3-3-1 on the year.
After a first half dominated by the visiting Broncos (4-2-1), the Phoenix was finally able to find the back of the net late in the second half with a goal by Fayçal Oulahbib (Chelles, France) in the 80th minute. Green Bay was unable to tie the game in the final 10 minutes of action, despite threatening on numerous occasions.
Oulahbib netted his third goal of the season off a rebound shot from James Pendrigh (Canterbury, New Zealand), who was credited with the assist on the goal. The play was started off a corner kick by the Phoenix, and after the ball was initially cleared by WMU, Green Bay sent it back in to the box which lead to the goal.
The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, then went up 2-0 later in the 57th minute. Both of Western Michigan's goals came off of set pieces, with Edu Jimenez notching an assist on both scores.
In all, Western Michigan took nine corners while Green Bay saw four. There were a total of three yellow cards handed out.
The Phoenix will hit the road to face IPFW this Sunday (Sept. 21) for a 1 p.m. kickoff time.
