EVANSTON, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Playing against a team ranked just outside the top-25, the visiting Green Bay volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-18) at Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The contest was the final non-conference tournament match for the Phoenix before returning home on Friday to open Horizon League action at the Kress Center against Valparaiso.
Freshman Taylor Totka (Racine, Wis.) led the Phoenix in kills in the match, recording five. Junior setter Emily Riese (Fond du Lac, Wis.) directed the offense with 17 assists.
Playing against a strong attacking Big Ten offense, sophomore Megan Powers (Glendale, Ariz.) tallied four blocks to lead the Phoenix defense. Junior Jillian Bauer (Verona, Wis.), the Horizon League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, collected 12 digs.
The Phoenix hosts Valpo at 7 pm. on Friday before welcoming UIC to Green Bay on Saturday for a 4 p.m. match.
