Green Bay Hits Program-Record 16 Three's to Down Detroit

By: Joey Daniels (@GBPhoenixWBB)

DETROIT, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Tying the program record for most three-pointers made in a single game with 16, the Green Bay women's basketball team cruised to a 75-58 victory over Detroit on Saturday afternoon at Calihan Hall to remain perfect in league play and secure its sixth-straight win.

Green Bay (15-3, 5-0 HL) started hot and never looked back in its second game of a four-game road trip, dominating Detroit (7-12, 2-4 HL) from start to finish. After grinding out a four-point win at Cleveland State on Thursday, the Phoenix was able to enjoy a blowout road win.

Four players registered double figures for the Phoenix, led by Mehryn Kraker and Tesha Buck who each finished with 15 points. Kraker enjoys playing in Calihan Hall, as she knocked down a new season-high five three-pointers in the game, giving her a total of 12 three-pointers made in her last two games at Detroit (made seven three-pointers last season).

Kaili Lukan did her damage on the inside, finished with 10 points with eight of them coming in the paint. Ellen Edison, who celebrated her birthday on Friday, scored her first points since Nov. 22 vs Duquesne after finishing with 12. Edison has scored in only three games this season, but has tallied double figures in each of those games.

Green Bay came out on fire to start the game as it exploded out to an 18-0 lead, thanks to six made three-pointers before the Titans scored their first points of the game with 14:03 left in the first half. The 18-0 lead is largest by the Phoenix to start a  game this season, while the six made three-pointers in the first six minutes are more than or tied with the total number of three-point baskets it has made in 10 games this season.

Buck was responsible for three of the three-pointers as she finished the first half with a team-high 13 points, while Megan Lukan, Kraker and Sam Terry each made one during that dominant stretch. Detroit would soon enjoy a 10-0 run of its own late in the first half, before Green Bay would respond to take a 39-22 lead into the half.

The 39 first half points by Green Bay marked its third-highest point total in a half this season. The Phoenix scored 40-plus points in a half at Marquette and at Dayton.f

The Phoenix finished the game 16-for-32 from three-point range and scored 25 points off of 19 Detroit turnovers.

Green Bay will continue its four-game road trip next weekend when it travels to Valparaiso and UIC. GB opens with the Crusaders on Thursday (Jan. 29) night for a 7:05 p.m. CT tip-off.
