JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Despite a career-high and near double-double performance from Kenneth Lowe, the Green Bay men's basketball team couldn't keep up with the hot shooting display from ETSU and fell 103-90 at Freedom Hall early Tuesday morning. The game was part of the annual 24 hour season tip-off marathon aired on ESPN2.
The Phoenix (0-2) did put up 90 points in the nationally televised game, but also gave up 100 points for the first time since 2004. ETSU (2-0) saw five players finish in double figures, led by Ge'Lawn Guyn who finished with a game-high 26 points.
Lowe was the offensive spark for Green Bay, which was faced with a challenging early morning tip-off time of 5 a.m. CT, finishing with a team-high and career-high 23 points and nine rebounds. Lowe finished a rebound shy of his first career double-double, but did go 10-for-15 from the field to keep the Phoenix in range in the second half.
Senior guard Carrington Love had another strong performance, finishing with 22 points after knocking down a career-high nine free throws. Love's points per game average through two games now stands 27.0.
ETSU was able to overcome a 15-4 early deficit, thanks in large part to their depth, by going on a 31-11 stretch to claim a 35-26 lead and an eventual seven-point lead at the break at 48-41. The Bucs outscored Green Bay 36-16 in bench points, while the hosts were able to go 7-for-13 from three-point land in the second half alone to put away the Phoenix. Green Bay went just 4-for-15 (26.7 percent) from beyond the arc.
Jordan Fouse registered the ninth double-double of his career, finishing with 15 points and 13 rebounds. The senior also added four assists and five steals, as Green Bay recorded 11 steals in all to ETSU's two.
The Phoenix will have another quick turnaround by traveling to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech (2-0) on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT (7 p.m. ET) and will be streamed on ESPN3 with the Yellow Jackets entering after wins against Cornell and Tennessee.
