Georgia Tech Shoots Past Green Bay to Conclude Road Trip

ATLANTA, Ga. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's basketball team fell behind early on the road and couldn't climb its way back, eventually falling 107-77 to Georgia Tech at McCamish Pavilion on Thursday night in its third-straight road contest to open the season. The loss drops the Phoenix to 0-3, while the Yellow Jackets were able to improve to a perfect 3-0.

The early-season opponents for the Phoenix continued to light up the scoreboard in another NIT Season Tip-Off game, this time scoring 107 points just days after watching ETSU put up 103 points. It's the first time Green Bay has been 0-3 since the 2000-01 season, but the vigorous schedule hasn't been kind. In its first three games, the Phoenix has played in California, visited two power programs and played a 5 a.m. game, this all in seven days on the road.

The Yellow Jackets opened up a 20-7 lead, thanks to a perfect 8-for-8 shooting effort to start the game. The Phoenix could never climb back as Georgia Tech continued to knock down shoots, eventually taking a 56-30 lead into the half.

Green Bay trailed from start to finish and fell behind by as many as 37 points. GT held the rebounding margin at a dominating 51-31.

Charles Cooper led the scoring efforts for Green Bay, finishing with a team-high 14 points. The team's leading scorer entering the game, Carrington Love, recorded a season-low seven points on a cold shooting night but did add five assists. Avery Brown put in nine points off the bench and senior Jordan Fouse also added nine.

In all, 11 of 12 players scored for the Phoenix, while Georgia Tech saw all five of its starters score in double figures and finished the game 11-for-24 from three-point range.

The second half started off on a positive note for the Phoenix, as the team was able to get to the rim and draw five and-one opportunities in the first eight minutes of action. Cooper scored 10 points alone in the second half, but Georgia Tech scored 56 points in the first half and 51 points in the second half to cruise to the easy win.

Sunday (Nov. 22) will bring the home-opener for the Phoenix, as it plays host to Minnesota-Duluth at 12 noon. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free Pomp's schedule magnet.
