MADISON, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team matched up with its in-state rival Wisconsin this evening, taking on the Badgers (3-6) at the Kohl Center. Double-digit scoring production from senior Kaili Lukan (11 points), junior Mehryn Kraker (16 points) and sophomores Jessica Lindstrom (16 points) and Allie LeClaire (15 points) helped lead the Phoenix to victory as Green Bay (6-2) picked up the 72-58 win over the Big Ten team.
Green Bay wasted no time getting its offense going in the contest, shooting 11-for-14 (78.6%) in the first quarter as a team to lead the Badgers 28-18 after the first 10 minutes of play. The 28 points scored in the opening quarter by the Phoenix was the highest point total in any quarter this season. Kraker was the main provider for the Phoenix in the early goings, as the guard amassed nine points on 4-of-5 shooting in the first quarter.
The Phoenix continued to slowly pull away from the Badgers over the second and third quarters of play, owning a 56-38 advantage as the teams took the floor for the final quarter. Wisconsin attempted to erase the deficit as time ran off the clock, but all efforts failed and Green Bay secured a 72-58 victory and picked up its third-straight win.
Lindstrom, who started in her second-straight game for the Phoenix, tied her career-high with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and pulled down five rebounds in 23 minutes of play.
Kraker, who recorded a season-high in points in Wednesday's matchup with Drake, shot 7-of-12 from the field and tied her season-high 16 points in 34 minutes on the court. Kraker also doled out three assists, pulled down two rebounds and collected one steal.
LeClaire continued her hot shooting from long range this afternoon, finishing 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and accruing 15 points in 37 minutes. Lukan finished the game with 11 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals in 36 minutes.
After six-straight games away from home, Green Bay will now enjoy a much welcomed return to the Kress Center, as the Phoenix now readies to host Loyola on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.
