GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay continued play at home this evening with Belmont, welcoming the Bruins (8-4) for the first meeting between the two programs. The Phoenix (9-2) trailed heading into the fourth quarter, 50-46, but once again pulled out the come-from-behind victory as the Green Bay outscored the Bruins 20-12 in the final 10 minutes and sealed the 66-62 victory to improve its winning streak to six-straight games.
Junior Mehryn Kraker was a major factor in Green Bay's victory this evening, as the guard tallied 22 points, pulled down five rebounds, logged two blocks, two assists and recorded two steals in 34 minutes. Kraker scored 10 of her season-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to help Green Bay close out the game.
Green Bay trailed by as many 12 points in the game, a lead that the Bruins built up with 2:31 left in the third quarter, 49-37. Green Bay began its rally immediately following the 12-point deficit and cut Belmont's lead down to just four points with a quarter to play.
Down 56-51 with 7:11 remaining, Kraker made three-consecutive layups to give the Phoenix the lead, 57-56, with 4:46 remaining. Belmont refused to go away; however, as the Bruins' Sally McCabe hit a jumper allowing Belmont to retake a 58-57 lead. A free throw from Kraker and a layup from Jessica Lindstrom put Green Bay back on top, 60-58, a lead that the Phoenix would not give away the remainder of the game.
Sophomore Jessica Lindstrom recorded the first double-double (11 points/10 rebounds) of her Phoenix career. The forward shot 4-of-7 from the field and notched one assists and one steal in 35 minutes.
Sophomore Allie LeClaire continued her string of stellar performances this evening, scoring 15 points and tallying four assists in 34 minutes of play. LeClaire also had a strong showing at the free-throw line and finished 7-for-8.
Green Bay will have over a week off until its next matchup, when it welcomes Dayton, a member of the NCAA's Elite Eight in 2014-15, to the Kress Center on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. to close out non-conference play.
