GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Former Green Bay standout Alec Brown (Winona, Minn.) will make his debut on Tuesday night when he suits up for the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA Development League. The Jam will host the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 9 p.m. CST.
Brown, a 2014 graduate of UW-Green Bay, was drafted in the second round (50th overall pick) of the 2014 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. The 7-foot-1 versatile post player appeared in five games for the Suns during the NBA Summer League before suffering a shoulder injury requiring surgery.
“We are excited to see Alec back on the court and making his professional debut,” Green Bay head coach Brian Wardle. “He worked extremely hard in the rehab process to get healthy, and I know he is looking forward to seeing that hard work pay off. Alec was instrumental in building the foundation for a championship program here in Green Bay, and all of us in the program are extremely proud of him.”
In his standout college career at Green Bay, Brown was a three-time All-Horizon League performer while racking up 1,678 points, 800 rebounds and 309 blocks in his career. His 309 blocks shattered the program record and tied the Horizon League mark, and he also finished his career shooting 40 percent (78-195) on three-pointers and 74.8 percent from the free-throw line.
As a senior in 2013-14, Brown averaged 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game in helping the Green Bay to a 24-7 overall record and a Horizon League regular season title with a 14-2 mark in league play. He knocked down 42-of-100 shots from long range and finished his career shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc (78-195).
Brown was the sixth Green Bay player selected in the NBA Draft and the first since Jeff Nordgaard in 1996. Former Phoenix standouts Tom Jones (1974), Tom Anderson (1978), Ron Ripley (1979) and Tony Bennett (1992) were also NBA Draft picks.
