Balance Sparks Wire-to-Wire Road Win over Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Visiting Green Bay (18-5, 7-2 HL) scored the first seven points on Monday evening in Dayton and secured a 71-58 wire-to-wire victory over Wright State (11-12, 3-6 HL) in Horizon League men's basketball action. With the win, Green Bay moved into a three-way tie for first place in the conference standings.

Freshman Daeshon Francis (Indianapolis, Ind.) made each of his seven field goal attempts en route to a career-high 14 points to lead the Phoenix off the bench. Senior Greg Mays (Chicago, Ill.) also scored 14 points for Green Bay on 5-of-8 shooting.

Junior Jordan Fouse (Racine, Wis.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds while dishing out six assists. Senior Keifer Sykes (Chicago, Ill.) tallied 13 points, six assists and a career-high five steals, and senior Alfonzo McKinnie (Chicago, Ill.) chipped in 10 points.

Coming off a loss at Cleveland State on Saturday, Green Bay won its 16th-straight game following a regular season loss.

Green Bay jumped out quickly on Monday night, getting five points from McKinnie and a dunk from Sykes to lead 7-0 less than three minutes into the game. After a WSU three-point play, the Phoenix rattled off another 9-0 run to lead 16-3.

Fouse, who nearly had a triple-double in the first meeting between the two teams, had eight points and nine rebounds at halftime as Green Bay took a 37-25 lead into the locker room.

Wright State cut the deficit to nine points early in the second half, but the Phoenix went on a 9-0 run to lead 48-32 with 13:44 remaining and held a double-digit margin the rest of the night.

Green Bay's lead reached 23 points (71-48) with 4:49 to play on a layup from Sykes. The Phoenix point guard went over 1,900 career points in the game and is now just two points shy of passing Jeff Nordgaard (1,911) and seven points from passing Dennis Woelffer (1,916) into second place on the program's all-time scoring list.

With Sykes and Fouse tallying six apiece, Green Bay dished out 18 assists in the game while committing only nine turnovers. Meanwhile, Green Bay's defense had 10 steals and forced 18 WSU miscues.

Green Bay returns to action on Thursday night at the Resch Center, hosting Milwaukee at 7 p.m.
