Green Bay Continues Dominant Defense in Rout of Youngstown St.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Increasing its winning streak to seven games, the Green Bay women's basketball team continued its recent display of dominating defense, crushing Youngstown State 73-27 on Saturday evening at the Beeghly Center.

The 46-point victory margin is the largest for the Phoenix (24-4, 14-1 HL) this season, while the 15.0 percent (6-for-40) shooting performance by the Penguins (19-8, 8-6 HL) is only 0.1 percent worse than the new program-record set last weekend against UIC (14.9 percent).

Green Bay's suffocating defense, which is now holding its league opponents to an astonishing 49.4 PPG this season, did not allow Youngstown State to make a field goal for an eternity of 15:05 during the end of the first half (12:12 total) and beginning of the second half (2:53 total). Youngstown State came in averaging 71.4 PPG, which ranked second in the league, and was held to its lowest point total of the season.

Offensively, Green Bay put four players in double figures, led by Kaili Lukan's 14 points and five rebounds. Allie LeClaire finished with 12 points off the bench, while Jessica Lindstrom celebrated her birthday with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Tesha Buck finished in double figures for the 18th time this season and sixth-straight game overall, finishing with 12 points, five assists and six rebounds. Lexi Weitzer played another quality game in the paint, tallying eight points and seven rebounds.

The Phoenix held its largest lead at any point this season when it went up by 48 points with 3:37 left in the game. It shot 53.8 percent (28-52) from the floor, marking the eighth time this season it has shot 50 percent or better and the third time in the last seven games (all wins).

For the third straight game, all nine players dressed for the Phoenix scored at least two points.

Green Bay will look to finish 15-1 in league play when it wraps up the regular season next Saturday (Mar. 7) at home against Detroit. That game will also serve as Senior Day for Green Bay's two seniors, Megan Lukan and Ellen Edison. Tip time is set for 1 p.m.
