GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – For the second-straight season, the Green Bay men's basketball team has earned a spot in the 32-team National Invitation Tournament. This season, the Phoenix earned a spot in the tournament as an at-large selection, and will play at Illinois State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a game televised nationally by ESPNU.
The Phoenix was selected as an at-large selection in front of numerous Power 5 conference teams, including Michigan, Minnesota, Florida, California, Tennessee and TCU.
Green Bay (24-8) is the fifth seed in the Old Dominion Regional, while Illinois State (21-12) is the four seed. The winner of the game will meet the winner of top-seeded Old Dominion and eighth-seeded Charleston Southern.
The two programs have met 12 times previously, with the Redbirds holding a 3-9 record in the series. The last meeting was on Dec. 3, 2005.
This marks the program's fourth overall appearance in the NIT and third-straight postseason appearance for head coach Brian Wardle's program, which has won 48 games in the past two seasons.
