Green Bay Announces Major Partnership with adidas

By: Joey Daniels

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) The University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and adidas have entered into a seven-year partnership in which the Portland, Ore., based company will be the official athletic footwear, apparel and accessory brand of the Phoenix through the 2021-22 season.

“This is a great day for our student-athletes, our department and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.  We are thrilled to be a part of the adidas three stripe family and all it stands for,” said Director of Athletics Mary Ellen Gillespie. “This is an incredible partnership with a gold standard company that values student-athletes and the opportunity to help an institution brand itself nationally.  We were seeking a partner that would strive to work with all 16 of our programs and we found that partner in adidas.”

The highly-recognized international brand will be the preferred apparel line for each of Green Bay's 16 varsity sports. The department will begin a transition into adidas apparel and equipment beginning this season and will be fully outfitted in adidas beginning with the 2016-17 season.

“As a former student-athlete and with my current involvement in the Council of Trustees, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is very close to my heart,” said adidas Group North America President Mark King. “I'm really looking forward to working with UW-Green Bay in this new capacity and seeing Phoenix athletes in adidas' world class sports gear.”

UW-Green Bay alumnus Mark King '81 was instrumental in making the deal a reality. The department and university are both grateful and appreciative of King's passion and dedication to Green Bay Athletics and the campus community. The former Phoenix golfer serves as the current President of adidas Group North America and previously served as the CEO of TaylorMade-adidas Golf.

“At adidas, our mission is speed. We want to help athletes get faster,” said Jim Murphy, director of NCAA Sports Marketing at adidas America. “We're excited to partner with the Phoenix over the next seven years and bring this mission to life by outfitting all men's and women's athletics in our best and most innovative uniforms, footwear and apparel.”

Adidas is a global designer, developer and marketer of athletic footwear, apparel and accessories with the mission to make all athletes better. adidas is the official uniform, footwear and apparel provider for more than 100 collegiate programs including Arizona State, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Texas A&M, UCLA and Wisconsin. adidas has marketing agreements with the National Basketball Association, National Football League, Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer.
