No. 22 Green Bay Dominates Glass, Returns to Form Against Detroit

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com)–
Sophomore Jessica Lindstrom scored a game-high 19 points and 13 rebounds and junior Mehryn Kraker added 14 points and 10 rebounds, as the 22nd-ranked Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team returned to form on Saturday afternoon at the Kress Center, using a plus-31 rebound advantage to defeat the Detroit Titans, 58-36.

The win marked head coach Kevin Borseth's 400 career Division I coaching victory.

Two days removed from its first home loss of the season, Green Bay jumped out to an 11-point edge after one, 18-7, and extended its lead to 12 at intermission, 29-17. The Phoenix opened its lead up to as many as 25 points midway through the final quarter, 56-31, before all said and done.

Green Bay ultimately led from start to finish, holding Detroit to just 24.0 percent (6-of-25) from the field in the first half and just 30.4 percent (14-of-46) overall to improve to 18-3 and 8-1 in Horizon League play. Lindstrom recorded her third double-double of the year while Kraker had her first (sixth career), marking the first time since March 16, 2014, that two Phoenix players posted a double-double in the same game (prev. Breannah Ranger (16 pts/10 reb) and Kraker (19 pts/12 reb).

Detroit (9-11, 5-4 HL) was coming off a season-high-tying 89 point-game on Thursday night against Milwaukee, a game which it shot 56.9 percent from the floor. However, as has been the case nearly all season, Green Bay's defense once again proved up to the challenge, as the league-leader in scoring defense at 53.9 PPG limited the Titans to 34 points under its per-game average (70.1 PPG).

Although both teams entered play ranked in the top three in the conference in 3-pointers made, the two combined to shoot just 9-of-54 (16.7 percent) from beyond the arc. The difference was Green Bay's ability to control the glass all afternoon long, as it used a 56-25 rebounding edge and subsequent 22-0 advantage in second chance points to put the game away.

Amidst a five-game home stand, the Phoenix remain home next Saturday, Feb. 6, for an in-state matchup with the Milwaukee Panthers (12-8, 6-3 HL) beginning at 1 p.m.
