CLEVELAND, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.xom) --- The Green Bay volleyball team fought back from down 2-0 in the Horizon League Championship game on Sunday afternoon at Cleveland State, but ultimately fell in the fifth set to the top-seeded and host Vikings. The Phoenix (21-9) made its first appearance in the championship game since 2003, but a 15-7 fifth set win would end their successful season.
Senior Megan Powers took 56 swings in the match, connecting on 17 kills. Jessica Wolf added 15 kills and Lydia DeWeese recorded 10 kills in the effort. DeWeese also tallied eight blocks and Austyn Everingham notched 26 digs.
The Phoenix fell behind 2-0 in the match, but a narrow victory in the third set and an easy victory in the fourth would force a decisive fifth set. The defending champions would not be denied on their homecourt however, taking the final set and the NCAA Tournament berth by a final score of 15-7.
The program says goodbye to three seniors, Powers, Amber Kelly and Adrianna Sosnowska. The three have helped bring Green Bay volleyball back to prominence in the Horizon League.
