Green Bay Suffers First Home Loss of Season to Wisconsin, 54-53

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team was handed its first home loss of the season at the hands of in-state rival Wisconsin this evening, 54-53. The Phoenix shot a season-low 31.1% from the field and was unable to overcome the size of the Badgers.

Green Bay (8-2) appeared to be taking over as the opening half came to a close, as the Phoenix rattled off a 10-2 run to lead things 25-19. Wisconsin (5-8) battled back in the third quarter, however, outscoring Green Bay 18-11 to take a one-point lead into the final quarter of play.

Wisconsin seemed to start taking control with 5:19 left to play in the fourth quarter, leading things 46-41. The Phoenix clawed its way back with a 12-3 run, taking a 53-49 lead with 1:09 to play. From there, Wisconsin used a triple from Suzanne Gilreath and a layup from Malayna Johnson to claim a 54-53 victory.

Mehryn Kraker led all scorers on the evening with 18 points in 30 minutes of play. There were eight total ties and nine lead changes in the game.

Green Bay will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 20 with Butler at 6 p.m. at the Kress Center.
