GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Mehryn Kraker scored a season-high 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting to help the Green Bay women's basketball team down Drake, 71-48, at home this afternoon.
The Phoenix set the tone immediately, winning the tip and going on an 11-0 run to take control of the game. The Bulldogs scored just nine points in the entire first quarter and finished 1-of-8 from long range, as their attempt to keep pace with a Green Bay team that was clicking on both ends fell short.
The Phoenix went on another run to open the second half, scoring 15 unanswered points to lead Drake 51-22 with 6:14 to play in the third quarter. Drake shot just 30.9% (17-55) in the game, while the Phoenix finished with a field-goal percentage of 48.3 (28-58).
Jen Wellnitz recorded a career-high eight steals this afternoon, moving her into a tie for fifth place on Green Bay's all-time single-game list. The program record for a single game is 12 and was set by Julie Wojta at Milwaukee on Jan. 7, 2012.
Freshman Caitlyn Hibner enjoyed a career day as well, scoring 10 points, grabbing seven rebounds and doling out three assists in 22 minutes.
The Phoenix will now hit the road again to take on in-state rival Marquette on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
