GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com)– Making its last home appearance of the 2016 regular season, the Green Bay women's basketball team outscored the visiting Northern Kentucky Norse in each of the final three quarters to win on Senior Day, 52-40.
After Northern Kentucky jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first five minutes of play, the Phoenix responded with a 13-0 run to begin taking over the game early in the second quarter. Green Bay built its lead up to eight points by the half, 24-16, but the Norse began to storm back and came as close as 29-27 with 5:32 left to play in the third.
Green Bay ended the third quarter on a 12-3 run and had built an 11 point lead heading into the final quarter of play. The Phoenix did not falter in the fourth, working its way to a 52-40 victory.
Junior guard Mehryn Kraker scored a game-high 16 points, including the 1,000th point of her career, while sophomore Jessica Lindstrom (11 pts/12 reb) added her sixth double-double of the season to propel the Phoenix to its eighth-straight victory since being dealt its lone conference defeat on Jan. 28 vs. Oakland (L, 58-56).
Senior guard Kaili Lukan didn't let the emotions of Senior Day affect her play, as she chipped in 12 points and six rebounds in 35 minutes. Lukan now needs only 12 points to reach 1,000.
Kraker became the 32 player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone and the 20th since Green Bay made the transition to Division I.
Green Bay (25-3, 15-1 HL) will conclude its regular season schedule next week with a pair of road contests at Detroit (6 p.m. CT) on Thursday and at Oakland (2 p.m. CT) on Saturday.
Following those games, the Phoenix returns home to host the Horizon League conference tournament from March 10-13. Green Bay has already clinched the overall No. 1 seed after securing its 18-consecutive regular season title on Thursday.
