HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Jordan Fouse recorded a double-double for the third-straight game and the Green Bay men's basketball team escaped with a much-needed road victory on Thursday night, knocking off Northern Kentucky 85-78 at the BB&T Arena.
Green Bay (14-9, 6-4 HL) needed clutch free throws late to seal the win and secure the season sweep of the Norse (8-14, 4-7 HL), while also avoiding back-to-back losses yet again since the 0-3 start to the season. After NKU knocked down a three-pointer with 51 seconds left to cut the Green Bay lead to four, Fouse made a pair of free throws and Turner Botz added another to fend off the hosts.
Fouse finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, notching his 15th career double-double and his seventh of the season. The stat-stuffing senior also added four blocks and four steals, with his fourth steal tying him with Terry Evans for the all-time career record at Green Bay. Fouse now sits on 237 career steals, needing just one more to take over the top spot.
Five players finished in double figures for the third time in four games for the Phoenix, and it's the sixth time it's happened this season. Carrington Love tallied his season average finishing with 18 points, while Kenneth Lowe added 12 points to give him his second-straight double digit game for the first time in his career.
Coming off the bench in a big way was Turner Botz and Kerem Kanter, who each registered 11 points. Botz has now made three three-pointers in back to back games and has made at least two three's in nine games this season. Kanter finished in double figures for the first time since Dec. 20 and saw his first game action since Jan. 19, giving the Phoenix a huge lift off the bench.
The Phoenix was credited with 11 steals in the game and forced NKU into 18 turnovers. Green Bay also finished 28-of-36 from the free throw line, its third-most made free throws in a game this season.
Green Bay will continue its five-game road trip with its third game of the swing at Wright State, who the Phoenix defeated at home earlier this season. Tip-off in Dayton, Ohio, at the Nutter Center is set for 6 p.m. CT on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
