DAYTON, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Unable to overcome an early deficit and plagued by a season-high turnovers total, the Green Bay men's basketball team fell 79-60 to Wright State on Saturday evening at the Nutter Center.
Green Bay (15-9, 6-5 HL) suffered its first loss to the Raiders (15-10, 9-3 HL) since 2013 and was unable to secure the season sweep in the process. Wright State has been a tough out at home this season, improving its record to 12-1 in the Nutter Center and a perfect 7-0 in Horizon League play.
The Raiders, fresh of a home win against Milwaukee and now winners in eight of the previous 10 games, ran out to a 22-8 lead and never looked back. Green Bay didn't help its cause, turning the ball over 10 times in the first 10 minutes of action.
The turnovers helped Wright State finish with a 25-13 advantage in points off turnovers and also scored 40 of its 79 points in the paint. Green Bay, who has now alternated wins and losses in its last 10 games, shot just 37.9 percent (22-of-58) from the field and 25 percent (5-of-20) from long range.
Carrington Love led the Phoenix with 17 points, while Kenneth Lowe also finished in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds. Khalil Small added eight points and seven rebounds.
Senior Jordan Fouse recorded his 238th career steal in the game, taking over sole possession of first all-time in career steals at Green Bay. Fouse is now nine steals away from becoming the all-time career leader in Horizon League history, trailing Kendrick Perry who tallied 246 steals in his career at Youngstown State.
Green Bay's five-game road swing will wrap up next weekend, when it travels to the Detroit area for a pair of games. The Phoenix will visit Detroit (Feb. 11) and Oakland (Feb. 13) before returning to the Resch Center for five-straight home games to close the regular season.
