GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team held off Detroit Mercy (7-8, 3-1) on Wednesday night at the Kress Events Center, 60-55, to win its sixth-straight game and hand the Titans their first loss in Horizon League play.
The Phoenix (14-2, 5-0) led by 14 points (32-18) at the half after closing the second quarter on a 12-4 run sparked by back-to-back three-pointers from Catilyn Hibner and Allie LeClaire. Mehryn Kraker also got involved in the run by adding four of the 14 points on a pair of layups.
However, the momentum created by the Phoenix to end the opening half did not carry over to the third quarter, as the Titans went on a 7-0 run over the first 2:18 of the third quarter to pull within seven points, 32-25. Green Bay did respond to the Titans' initial run by closing the third with a 10-4 run of its own to carry a 46-34 lead into the final quarter of play.
Detroit Mercy lowered the deficit to five points, 53-48, with 2:56 to play but was never able to pull within a single possession in the final minutes, as Green Bay went on to win its sixth-straight game, 60-55.
Mehryn Kraker (14), Allie LeClaire (13) and Jen Wellnitz all scored in double figures for the Phoenix. Jessica Lindstrom pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and grabbed a pair of steals in 31 minutes.
Green Bay will now turn its attention to Friday's matchup with Oakland at the Kress Center, slated for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
