Green Bay Goes Cold at Valparaiso in League Battle

VALPARAISO, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay shot just 31 percent (22-for-71) at Valparaiso on Monday evening at The ARC, resulting in its first loss in over a month in the 80-56 setback. The loss snaps a seven-game winning streak for the Phoenix (11-7, 5-1 HL), which will now return to the Resch Center for two more home games.

The Crusaders (15-4, 5-1 HL) pulled even in first place with the convincing win, which handed Green Bay its eighth-straight loss at Valparaiso. The field goal percentage was the second-lowest by Green Bay this season (at Pacific the team shot 30.4 percent) and the margin of defeat was largest this season as well.

Green Bay fell behind by 15 midway through the first half, before cutting the lead down to four late in the period. A Valpo 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half put the home team back in front by seven going into the break.

The second half had a similar story for Green Bay, as Valparaiso would enjoy a 17-0 run and hold the Phoenix scoreless for nearly five minutes to put the game out of reach. The Crusaders on the other hand, shot lights out, going 32-for-69 (46.4 percent) from the field.

Jamar Hurdle led the Phoenix with 11 points and Kerem Kanter added 10. All 12 players to play for Green Bay scored in the game.

Green Bay set a season-low in total points (56) and free throws attempted (9).

Alec Peters led Valparaiso with 20 points and 16 rebounds.
