Huseini Scores Late to Earn Draw with Cleveland State

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Buran Huseini found the back of the goal for the Phoenix equalizer as time winded down in regulation on Saturday night at Aldo Santaga Stadium against Cleveland State. The Vikings scored in the 55th minute to garner the first advantage of the evening, but the strong attack of the Phoenix led to numerous opportunities to tie the game and eventually that's exactly what happened.

After a foul occurred during Green Bay's attack, Audi Jepson placed a free kick to the far side of the net with pinpoint accuracy and allowed Huseini to slip past the defense and find mesh to knot the game at 1-1 with only a minute remaining in regulation. The goal was the second of Huseini's career, with the first coming in last year's match with the Vikings and serving as the game-tying strike in the 79th minute.

The following overtime periods saw both players take the field with just 10 players after a pair of red cards led to ejections on both sides. Neither team was able to send the game winning goal into the opposing team's net as the game went on to end in a 1-1 draw.

"It was a very competitive game tonight," head coach Jeremy Bonomo said. "Both teams had to deal with poor weather and field conditions. CSU was able to strike first. Our guys showed a lot of guts and never gave up.  Once we equalized, it was enjoyable to watch our side go for the win with aggressive play. We simply ran out of time."

Green Bay travels to Western Michigan on Tuesday for a break from the Horizon League slate with kickoff slated for 3 p.m.

GOAL SUMMARY
55' | CSU | Noah Pio (Unassisted): After working from the left to right side and past the Phoenix backline, Pio sent a shot past the goalkeeper and into the center of the net.

90' | GB | Buran Huseini (Assist: Audi Jepson): Jepson served it from the far left side of the field on a free kick and found Huseini charging on the back side of the net who then beat the keeper right.
