GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Senior Alex Zeller scored the game-winning goal in the seventh minute of play on Saturday as the Phoenix secured a shutout victory at Detroit Mercy, 1-0.
The Phoenix offense missed an opportunity to score at 6:15 mark and then 30 seconds later, Leah Nitardy found Zeller attacking down the middle and centered the ball to her with Zeller placing a shot left and into the Titans' net. Green Bay had a few more looks on goal, but UDM's keeper came up with a save at 18:42 and the other attempts were high or wide.
The stifling Phoenix defense did not allow the Titans to register a single shot in the first half of play. Each team logged eight shots in the match, but the Phoenix owning an advantage in on-goal attempts 4-2.
Courtney Klatt secured her first shutout of the season with two saves.
Green Bay returns to the pitch next weekend as it closes out its season at Youngstown State.
