INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's soccer team is once again sitting atop the conference standings after a dominant performance at IUPUI on Sunday afternoon.
Audi Jepson and
Andre Baires both found the back of the net at Michael A. Carroll Stadium as the Phoenix moved to 5-1-1 in Horizon League play after a shutout victory over the Jaguars, 2-0.
"We needed a result today on the road and we got it," head coach
Jeremy Bonomo said. "We knew IUPUI was not going to roll over. We had to earn it this afternoon, and our guys worked hard and deserved the three points."
Green Bay wasted no time collecting the lead on the road, with Jepson finding the back of the net in the 16th minute after the perfect feed from teammate
Tomer Zloczower. The goal was Jepson's eighth of the season and the assist was Zloczower's eighth as well.
Andre Baires added an insurance strike in the 61st minute on a free kick for his first goal of the season. Baires used pinpoint accuracy on a free kick to find mesh after bending one into the back of the net just out of the keeper's reach.
The current standings in the league have Green Bay in first place with 16 points followed closely by Wright State with 15. The Phoenix defeated the Raiders, 2-1, earlier in the season on the road.
Green Bay returns home next weekend for Homecoming and Senior Night as the Phoenix welcomes Belmont to Aldo Santaga Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 28 with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
