Swimming and Diving to Travel to Cleveland State for Dual Meets

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay swimming and diving teams will be making the long journey to Cleveland, Ohio this Friday to compete in a two-day dual meet against Horizon League foes Cleveland State University. The women will also be facing Marshall University in a double-dual meet format.

Green Bay has not faced Cleveland State since the 2014-15 season, when the current seniors were freshmen. Both sides won at home at that match-up, which marked the first-ever dual victory for the men against the Vikings. In addition, the Phoenix has not seen Cleveland State's home pool since the 2014 Horizon League Championships, meaning that only redshirt seniors Andy Cooper and Crystal Franzwa have competed at the Busbey Natatorium.

This season, the Green Bay men have been a fully-functioning, on-fire squad. Led by a deep senior class, and backed by a strong freshman group, the team looks to keep its winning streak alive. The women have only lost to the University of Illinois-Chicago thus far, so this weekend will be a strong indicator of how well the Lady 'Nix can simultaneously overcome challenges and make a mark in the Horizon League. Both the men and women will be backed by a resilient diving team, who have produced Horizon League Diver of the Week award winners after every single meet they have competed in.

As for the competition, Cleveland State has not yet faced another Horizon League competitor this year, but boast two Horizon League Swimmers of the Week in junior transfer Jason van der Touw, a freestyle and backstroke specialist, and junior Molly McNamara, the 2017 Horizon League 200 butterfly champion. Although Marshall University is part of the C-USA conference, last weekend they raced against both Milwaukee and Wright State, beating both in a double-dual. They won 10 out of the 14 events against Milwaukee, and took every race against Wright State.

The order of events can be viewed below. Friday's events will commence at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday's will begin at 12:00 p.m. Fans can follow along on the Meet Mobile app.
