Green Bay Secures Outright Horizon League Championship with 2OT Win at NKU

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – One week after a thrilling double-overtime victory at Aldo Santaga Stadium to clinch a share of the Horizon League regular season championship, the Green Bay men's soccer team secured the title outright with a 1-0 win at Northern Kentucky, doing so once again in double overtime. Tomer Zloczower was the hero of the night for the Phoenix, netting the game-winner in the 103rd minute on a free kick just outside the box.

Green Bay closed out the season with the best mark in Horizon League play in the program's history at 7-1-1.  In addition to the Phoenix officially clinching the regular-season title outright, it also earned the No. 1 seed heading into next week's tournament.

Goalkeeper Nikola Kahvedzic saved two Northern Kentucky shots and picked up his second-straight shutout victory to end the regular season. The Phoenix (8-4-3, 7-1-1 HL) put three shots on the mark, with the third and final one serving as the game winner.

The seven wins in the league season is a new program best, with the Phoenix never before reaching the milestone in the Horizon League era.

The tournament begins with Quarterfinal matches on Monday, November 6 with Milwaukee and Wright State hosting first round games.

No. 3 Milwaukee will host No. 6 Detroit Mercy at 7 p.m. CT Monday. After a 2-0 win over IUPUI ­­­–Wright State captured the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 Cleveland State 6 p.m. CT Monday.
