Green Bay Closes Strong at Northwestern to Move to 10-1 on Season

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Allie LeClaire led all scorers with a season-high 22 points at Northwestern (6-7) this afternoon as No. 21/23 Green Bay (10-1) took down the Wildcats, 63-57, at the Allstate Arena in front of the 4,142 fans in attendance. The Phoenix moved to 10-1 on the season, capping off its best start through nonconference play since the 2011-12 campaign.

The Phoenix was able to get things going early on the road against the tough Big Ten team, opening the game with a 7-0 run after baskets from LeClaire, Jessica Lindstrom and Karly Murphy. At the 3:52 mark in the first quarter Lindstrom sank her first of two three-pointers to grant Green Bay a 12-4 advantage. The Wildcats battled back a bit but still trailed 15-9 as the buzzer sounded to signify the end of the first.

Green Bay scored six points in less than a minute to open the second quarter and worked up to a 21-9 edge before Northwestern started to get things rolling offensively. With 1:39 remaining in the half, Northwestern's Lindsey Pulliam buried a jumper to lower the Wildcats' deficit to just four points, 32-28.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle with neither team able to fully take control. As time ticked off the clock in the fourth, the Phoenix went 6-for-8 at the line to seal the game, 63-57, and pick up its fifth-consecutive victory.

Green Bay picked up its second win over a Big Ten program with the victory, having defeated in-state rival Wisconsin earlier in the season, 67-34.

Today was the first time this season that Green Bay finished with a deficit in rebounds, with Northwestern holding a 29-26 advantage on the afternoon. The Phoenix did hold an edge in points in the paint, 20-14, to stay perfect in that category (11-0) this season.

Lindstrom tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in 35 minutes. Caitlyn Hibner scored 14 points on a 5-for-10 effort from the field and pulled down a trio of rebounds in 33 minutes.

Northwestern shot a better percentage from the field at 45.5% (20-44) compared to Green Bay's 42% (21-50), but the Phoenix held an advantage in turnovers, 13-16.

The Phoenix will enjoy some time away from the court over the holidays, with its next action coming on Thursday, Dec. 28 when the team opens Horizon League play with Wright State in Dayton, Ohio.
