FORT WORTH, Texas (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay volleyball team saw its season come to close on Wednesday night, falling 3-0 at TCU in the Quarterfinals of the Postseason NIVC. The Phoenix finish the season at 17-16, finishing with a nice run in the NIVC which included two impressive victories following a runner-up finish in the Horizon League Tournament.
Green Bay led the opening set at 19-18, but the Horned Frogs won seven of the final nine points to set the stage early with a 25-21 win. TCU (15-16) then won the second set by an identical score, again making a late run after the set was tied at 20-20.
The hosts won the third set 25-22, even though the Phoenix would not go away without a fight, making late runs before coming up short.
Jessica Wolf led GB with 9 kills and
Lydia DeWeese added 7 kills of her own. The freshmen trio of
Taylor Wolf,
Roberta Todd and
Anna Eaton, who all return next season after a year of quality playing experience in 2017, finished with 5 kills each.
Maddie Yoss recorded a double-double with 28 assists and 10 digs, while
Vanessa Buman added 20 digs on the defensive side of the net.
The Phoenix won five of its last seven matches to end the season, and was able to play two additional matches at home in the process.
The program waves farewell to three standout seniors in
Lydia DeWeese,
Abby Jeffcoat and
Taylor Totka. Combined, the group won over 60 matches together and collected multiple All-Academic and All-League honors. DeWeese even collected Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Season honors before the match.
