GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's volleyball team will begin the 2017 season on Friday evening in Charleston, Ill.,  at the EIU Panther Classic sponsored by Comfort Suites. The team's first match will be against the tournament hosts, the Eastern Illinois Panthers at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Phoenix will take on the Bradley Braves in the morning (10:30 a.m.) and the Memphis Tigers (4 p.m.) in the afternoon at Lantz Arena.

OPPONENT OUTLOOK
Green Bay faced EIU last year, sweeping all three sets in the Country Inn & Suites Green Bay Invitational. They last saw Bradley two seasons ago in Toledo, Ohio, for the Rocket Invitational, where the Braves were the only team to down the Phoenix, 3-0. Meanwhile, the team has not played Memphis since 2011, at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill. They also bested the Phoenix in three sets, so the Phoenix will be looking to even the record books this weekend.

2017 OUTLOOK
While the Phoenix was selected second in the Horizon League Preseason Poll voted on by the coaches, the team has the ultimate goal of taking down its first regular season league championship in program history. The program made its lone NCAA Tournament appearance back in 2003 and will look to get back there again in 2017. Green Bay won 21 matches last season, the second most in program history.
